at the age of 60.
He died on Tuesday, 16 November 1999 and was buried in the Military Cemetery at Lumley, Freetown on Friday, 26 November.
With his lanky 6 ft plus frame, 'Big Fayia', as he was affectionately known throughout the length and breadth of Sierra Leone, entertained his compatriots for nearly thirty five years of his life, with music laced with spontaneity and improvisation. He set to dance music many ethnic and cultural rhymes, which made him a favourite of children everywhere in the country.
He is survived by his wife Mary and several children, including Mahmoud, Siah, Siah and Siah, Mustapha (Junior), Augusta, Mohammed, and Kumba who lives in London.
We wish Big Fayiah's family and friends our sincere condolences and pray that His soul will rest in perfect peace.
|(We very much regret that we did not report
this news earlier as had been promised for several weeks. This was because
we were awaiting details from Sierra Leone which have still not arrived
by the time of filing this brief report. With hindsight we ought really
to have given the name of the deceased while we put together a fitting
obituary. The latter will now appear at a future date. We are sorry for
any anxiety and distress that might have been caused to visitors to this
site by the lingering uncertainty over the identity of the deceased.)
